The UAE launches social media campaign to host 2020 World Expo in Dubai

Facebook and Twitter initiatives introduced, coinciding with UAE participation in International Expo in Yeosu, South Korea

Dubai, UAE; May 14, 2012: The United Arab Emirates is enhancing its campaign to host the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, including launching new social media initiatives to generate increased community involvement in the UAE’s bid to bring the Expo to the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia region for the first time in the event’s 160-year history.

Today, the UAE launched an Expo 2020 Facebook page (www.facebook.com/DubaiExpo2020) and is inviting individuals from across the country and the globe to contribute to this dialogue about the UAE bid specifically and World Expos generally. As part of this conversation, the Expo 2020 Facebook page will be enriched on an ongoing basis with information, images and ideas that bring to life the theme of the UAE bid: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.”

TV Talk Shows in Arab Region Need to Abide by Conscience and Ethical Standards

Audience Growing Wary of Talk Shows that Degenerate into Patterns of Verbal or Physical Violence, Concur Arab Media ForumPanellists

Dubai-UAE: 9 May, 2012 –TV talk shows in the Arab region need to strike a balance between encouraging a fervent debate among guests in a bid to attract audiences and abiding by the code of ethics and their own conscience, according to experts during the final session of the 11th Arab Media Forum (AMF2012).

The panellists admitted that most viewers are drawn to talk shows for their entertainment value that such overheated debate brings, while its value as a platform that promotes dialogue is often side-lined. It was also pointed out that talk shows which habitually degenerate into verbal abuse and wrestling matches may eventually serve to alienate audiences.

Titled ‘Free Media and Free Wrestling’,the session highlighted changes in the language and the violent approach that is increasingly being adopted by the media during on-air conversations.

Yemeni filmmakers present the plight of marginalised communities at 5th Gulf Film Festival

Two of the three films from the country make their world premiere at the festival

Dubai, UAE; April 5, 2012: Yemen’s contemporary society finds its echoes in the films that are being screened at the fifth Gulf Film Festival being held from April 10 to 16, 2012, at Dubai Festival City’s Grand Cinemas, with free admission for the public.  Three films have been short-listed for the festival’s Official Gulf Shorts and Gulf Student Shorts competitions of which two are making their world premiere in Dubai.  

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the festival has traditionally served as the first platform for cinema from Yemen, especially by the country’s emerging filmmakers.

Abu Dhabi, April1, 2012 –Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s low-carbon, low-waste sustainable development, has received the GlobalEnergy Efficiency Visionaries award for the Africa-Middle East region at the Energy Efficiency (EE) Global Forum 2012 held in Orlando, USA.

This year’s EE Global Forum was the fifth annualgathering of discussions on how to increaseenergy efficiency through technological breakthroughs and policy advances. Masdar City was selected by the Forum’s International Steering Committee,comprising ofhigh-level energy efficiency professionals from across the world, including: President of Schneider Electric U.S., Jeff Drees; United States Senate members Mark Warner and Jeanne Shaheen; Senior Vice President and Global Head, Efficiency andSustainability, Building Technology, Siemens Industry Inc, Robert J. The fifth edition of GFF, to be held from April 10 to 16, 2012, at venues in and around Dubai Festival City, marks the fourth year of Dubai Studio City’s association with the Festival and complements its support to the Dubai International Film Festival.

Saeda Al-Dakkak, Mustafa Taha and his son won all expenses paid trips to Beirut provided by PepsiCo to attend the final elimination round and witness the rise of Arab Idol’s next star Carmen Sulaiman. Best of Emirati cinema from past editions of Gulf Film Festival to be screened at SIKKA 2012 art fair

•    Special showcase of Emirati cinema to be held on the sidelines of the contemporary art fair from March 16 to 25 at Al Bastakiya

•    42 Emirati films including award-winning feature films, documentaries and shorts to be screened for free for the public

Dubai, UAE; March 14, 2012: The best of Emirati cinema, screened at the past four editions of the Gulf Film Festival, will be screened for free to the public as part of a unique collaboration between the festival and SIKKA 2012, a contemporary art fair by the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) at Al Bastakiya from March 16 to 25, 2012.

The first of its kind initiative aims at highlighting the significant strides that Emiratis have made in films and is in line with SIKKA’s objective of showcasing UAE’s diverse and emerging art perspectives. Some 42 films including features, documentaries and shorts by professional Emirati filmmakers and students will be screened from March 16 to 24 at the Dar Al Nadwa in the heritage district.
