By Air

The second busiest airport of UAE, Abu Dhabi International Airport is quite a convenient way to get there. At present, the airport is undergoing some construction due to the proposed expansion which is expected top be completed in 2010. The distance of around 40 minutes to the city from the airport can be covered in around Dhs.75 via Al Ghazal taxis. Another alternative to reach the city is by that of 901 public bus routes that has provides a frequent service after every 35-40 minutes.

Another of the viable options is to fly first to Dubai and then continue the rest of the journey via bus or a taxi. A metered taxi from the Dubai Airport directly to town center would cost around Dhs 300.

In case one is flying by Etihad, there are complimentary shuttle bus services that are made available towards the center of Abu Dhabi and also Dubai after regular intervals. The main car park located at the airport front is the departure point for these shuttle buses.

By Road

The most commonly traveled route in the country is the 5-laned highway that stretches between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It shortens the 170-km to a mere 2 hour travel. However, the emirates way of driving is often dangerous, it is better to be careful when driving the way to Abu Dhabi.

Though there is no particular usable system of public transportation for people of Abu Dhabi, the best way to get there is by either to rent the car or hire a taxi. The general white and gold taxis along with green signals are easily accessible and affordable. National and Al Ghazal are the luxurious cabs that are a little expensive. However, no tips are expected by the cab drivers, but gratuity is appreciated for sure.
